Bonsai and Tea

Description

She sat on the bed with her legs criss crossed, her long hair cascaded down her shoulders as his large T shirt engulfed her tiny body. Her brown eyes were red, her nose reminded him of Rudolph, and all the tender sweetness of her face and soul seemed drained out of her. She was so tired. The past months hadn't been treating her well. He handed her small cup of chai tea, lots of milk, lots of sugar, just how she liked it. "Thank you, love," she whispered as she took a sip. He set his cup on the windowsill and gazed through the window. The sky was various hues of grey, the clouds looked like a sea of white cotton that had been left out on the streets. The rain drizzled, making the couple sleepy and tired. It was a perfect day to cuddle in bed and retreat from the world, the perfect day to hold her in his arms and tell her everything was going to be okay. He touched a leaf on the bonsai tree that had its home on the window sill.
"You know," she said "I was damned sure I killed that thing. And now it's fully bloomed."
"What made you think that you killed it? It's a bonsai tree, those things are pretty hard to kill unless you really tried." He scooped her up and held her in the bed with the covers on top of them. They began to look out the window and study the outside world, along with the bonsai tree. He laid his head in the crook of her neck and planted small kisses.
"I don't know. . . when i first got it, it started turning brown and ugly. I just thought it was dying. Before I knew it, it turned beautiful."
"Maybe it didn't think about dying," he said "it's a plant. It just lets everything be, and then takes it course. Plants, they could be on the verge of dying, and they still look for sunlight, I guess once they find it they start living again."
